Lynn Santer
"Lynn Santer has visited
Africa on numerous occasions, tracked wild predators on foot, and
worked hands-on
with injured cheetah. She has designed the "Big
Cats of Africa" tour from her personal knowledge of these locations,
and her long-term close relationships with both Conservation Corporation
Africa, and The AfriCat Foundation.
She has been awarded for her
work for animal welfare since she was 11 years old. In more recent
times she's been honoured by WSPA (World Society for Protection
of Animals) when she was one of only three fundraisers in the UK
invited to inspect the LiBearty sanctuary for big brown bears in
outback Turkey (1998).
The AfriCat Project UK made
her their first and only honorary Life Member (1999). The RSPCA regularly
invite her to be a judge in their Million Paws Walk. And in 2003,
Lynn was asked by a giant in wildlife charities, WWF (formerly The
World Wide Fund For Nature) to help them put together their prestigious
25 years in Australia celebrations at Dreamworld's Tiger Island.
Her latest novel "Land
of the Free" clearly illustrates her passion and intimate
knowledge of this land, the wildlife who share it, and the people
who are trying to preserve it. To order your copy, click

Alby Mangels
Alby Mangels, adventurer, environmentalist,
documentary maker and active animal conservationist, has devoted
the past decade to his life to help preserve endangered species in
the wild.
He is an active supporter and
participant in the quest to create awareness concerning the plight
of the gorilla, of which there are estimated to be only 300 remaining
in the wild! He is also working to highlight the plight of the highly
endangered tiger. Many sub species of tiger have already become extinct,
and the spectacular white tiger now only exists in captivity. Of
an estimated 11,000 tigers in the world today, 7,000 of these live
in captivity, and the habitat of those remaining in the wild is under
constant threat from both poachers and encroaching humanity.
In the
USA it is still legal to own tigers as pets with, it seems, little
regard for the wellbeing of either the tiger or the owner.
Alby
shares in common with Tippi Hedren a passion to see laws enforced
to abolish irresponsible private ownership of these magnificent
creatures. (Today Tippi cares for over 60 big cats that have been
cast off from such circumstances at her own big cat preserve, “Shambala”).
Scott Hunter
"Scott Hunter is one of Tiger Island's dedicated tiger handlers. He has dedicated his working life to caring for and training a diverse array of large predators.
Since his first job as a marine
aquarist in 1988, Scott's career has allowed him to travel the world,
working alongside with researchers, animal
specialists and conservationists in the field. Over the past 16 year,
he has shared space with some of the most amazing creatures including
sharks, dolphins, seals and sealions, crocodiles ... and now tigers.
He has been fortunate enough
to have seen and experienced the most amazing things, shared only
by the privileged few and has grown fascinated with the interaction
of living things and particularly the effects of human impact. The
growing public interest in this field, particularly with the media
has enabled Scott to encourage support of the many people and organisations
working to create change as global extinction continues.
As an animal trainer at Dreamworld's
Tiger Island, he is one of only seven tiger handlers interacting
with , and caring for the rare Bengal tigers. These animals are threatened
with extinction without the help and research conducted by zoos and
organisations such as Tiger Island .
Tiger Island which is neither
a static display or a circus, provides an excellent opportunity for
the handlers to educate the public on what can be achieved. They
focus on the amazing interaction between themselves and the 7 tigers,
spending, countless hours with the animals, and have systems in place
which ensure the health and safety of animals and staff.
Faced by a 3 billion strong
human population in Asia, the future of the tiger looks grim but
hope is on the horizon. Scott is looking forward to sharing the work
of the many individuals who hold that hope.
With 95% of their original
population now vanished, the Bengal tiger is the greatest stronghold
for their kind - "future generations would be truly saddened that
by the end of this century we had so little foresight, so little
compassion, such lack of generosity of spirit for the future that
it would eliminate one of the most beautiful and dramatic animals
the world has ever seen".
Darren Jew
"Having been inspired to explore a career in nature photography by his father's travels in Antarctica, Darren Jew now pursues a passion for capturing and sharing the wonder of the natural world.
In addition to escorting photographic journeys to many parts of the world, and introducing many people to the world's great wildlife and landscape destinations first hand, Darren operates his own wildlife and landsacpe based photography business.
His work is published widely in books, magazines and paper products. He has photographed extensively across Australia, Africa, Alaska, Patagonia and Antarctica. "
